The car was
originally supplied to the First Governor of
Rhodesia, Sir John Robert Chancellor. The car was
then acquired in 1955 by Mr. K.B. 'Nobby' Clarke of
Salisbury who bought the car from the Rhodesian
Government CMED sale. At this stage the car had been
converted into a pick-up. Hickman built a 2-seater
body, using part of a VW roof for the rear deck.
Later the car was fitted with a tourer body using
the rear section off a Willys Knight, that was
modified by a panel beater from Bill Wood's Panel
& Spray shop, WEVCO. Still owned by Mr. Clarke
in 1970, by 1978 the car was owned by Joe T. Skinner
of Salisbury, offered for sale by Joe in 1979. Owned
by Bill Francis, a farmer in Umvukwes, later taken
to South Africa, last noted in the Pietersburg area
around 2000, with a cracked head? The right hand
photo is believed to show the Imperial before it was
rebodied as a tourer.
