Renault based
sports car built in 1975 by Andy Goodman (ex McLaren
mechanic), called the Pygmee. After running
it briefly in 1975/76, he sold it in 1977 to
Horst Hornick (ran a 1m 11.8s). Driven by Ophie
Howard in 1 meeting in 1977, not raced in 1978. Sold
to Chappie Chapple who ran it in 1979/part of 1980,
he in turn sold it to Ronnie Watt? Run by Richie
Main for the rest of the 1980 season. For 1981 it
was by Raymond Paul who won that year's Sports Car
Championship.
The last person to drive the
car was Raymond Paul, who had purchased the car
from Richie Maine. Sadly the chassis fatigued
and cracks developed in various stress areas.
The car was stripped down, the hewland box was
fitted into the Monoposto, the
chevron rims were sold to someone in
Johannesburg who was building replica
chevrons. The motor a group5 Gordini
was in storage for many years. Sadly
this motor was stripped for somebody
to come and look at it on behalf of
a buyer in Johannesburg and over the
weekend the rods sleeves and pistons
were stolen. Unknown what happened
to the chassis and bodywork, which
were said to be in Bulawayo
with Nigel Thornborough.
The pictures show the car when
Chappie owned it. The left hand photo shows
the car leading the Davy.
