Acquired by Alec Paterson of
Redhouse, Port Elizbeth in 1962 from a Mr.
Stevenson in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. Mr.
Stevenson had acquired the car from a farmer in
whose field the car had been discarded some ten
years before. Possibly imported into Cape Town by
Dr. C.M. Murray, completed with a 2-seater body by
a coach builder in Claremont. Restored as a
running chassis in the mid 1980s. Offered for sale
by Belinda Paterson, daughter of the restorer. One
of two / three in existence.
This is one of two Valveless cars that Alec has
rescued, the other was a Special Export Model that
went to the UK for restoration by David Brown
apprentices and is now in the National Motor
Museum (see photo of the tourer below). The car
had originally been sold by Dunell Ebden of Port
Elizabeth to a store keeper in Basutoland. The car
was acquired by Alec in 1955 from a Mr. Sterley in
Lady Grey who had acquired the car for his wedding
and regularly used it in the 1920s. It is one of
the last Colonial Models imported in early
1915.
